FOXBOROUGH - It was, says Steve Grogan, almost seven years
later, "a desperation pass" thrown with the resignation that it
probably would wind up bouncing on the artificial turf of Schaefer
Stadium.
"It was a Monday night game against Denver," said Grogan the
other day, playing the tape back in his memory bank and smiling at
the thought even now. "I called a post pattern to Stanley in the
huddle. I remember dropping back and not seeing anyone open and
just throwing it as hard and as far as I could. I figured I
overthrew him by about 10 yards. "
Forty-five yards and approximately 5 seconds later, Stanley
Morgan arrived in the end zone, the ball secure under his arm.
