Councilor at Large Joseph M. Tierney yesterday assailed
Mayor Flynn for proposing a mass-burn incinerator for the South Bay
area and charged during the mayoral campaign's first televised
debate that Flynn has mismanaged development and traffic.
As the campaign enters its final weeks with Tierney seen as an
underdog, the challenger threw caution to the wind last night and
pushed a strong offense.
Tierney frequently interrupted the mayor's presentation, and
Flynn became visibly angry at Tierney's brisk attack, which
occurred during a debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters
and televised by Cablevision of Boston.
