Inundated by almost 2.5 billion shares traded in the previous
week and beset with disagreements between brokers over what shares
were traded and prices are to be paid, the New York Stock Exchange
yesterday finally cried uncle.
The Big Board said it would curtail its trading hours today
through Tuesday.
The American Stock Exchange did not curb trading hours but did
announce plans to keep its clerical operations open later tonight
and tomorrow to enable traders to meet the five-day limit for
settling stock trades. {CORRECTION: Because of a reporting error,
