In 1969, when Foster Wright was 22, the US Navy sent him to
Vietnam. He commanded a riverboat, operating in the Mekong Delta
and occasionally making runs to Cambodia.
After he returned to the United States, Wright went to
graduate school to study political science and philosophy. He
taught English for a time at his old high school in Portsmouth,
N.H., returned to graduate school, then moved on to be a high
school principal.
Wright has been principal of Belmont High School for seven
years. He is married and has two children, ages 3 and 6.
Nearly 9 million American servicemen were sent to Vietnam.
Most were fated to return. They went back to work, went back to
school, got married, ...
