In reference to the article on the rise of domestic violence
arrests among women {"Increasingly, Abuse Shows Female Side," Metro,
Nov. 18}, I have no quarrel with what Leef Smith reported.
Considering that most domestic violence advocates are loath to admit
that any woman might be violent, I think Ms. Smith did a good job.
But as a criminologist who has specialized in domestic violence for
almost 20 years, I read this story several times and still failed to
find what I thought was a sufficient answer for why we're seeing an
increase in women arrested for domestic violence.
