Article: TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED ON CONTRA AID, SENATORS SAY

WASHINGTON - Congressional and administration officials reached a tentative agreement last night on providing assistance to the Nicaraguan contras, the main issue blocking completion of two huge budget bills, two Republican senators said.

"We believe we have reached agreement in principle, subject to looking at it on paper," Sen. Warren Rudman (R-N.H.), said after emerging from a closed- door meeting of White House and legislative officials.

Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) added that the pact would also have to be approved by other congressional leaders and by President Reagan.
