More than 300 friends and family members of former
Gloucester mayor and Gloucester High School football coach Norman
(Nate) C. Ross attended his funeral Mass Monday, Jan. 11, in St.
Ann Church, Gloucester.
Mr. Ross died Wednesday, Jan. 6, at his winter home in Palm
Springs, Fla., of cancer of the esophagus. He was 80.
Born in Gloucester, the son of a fishing schooner captain, Mr.
Ross graduated from Gloucester High School in 1927.
He was a 1931 graduate of Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa.,
where he received a bachelor's degree in economics.
In high school, he played football and baseball and was the
captain of the basketball team.
