Article: IT'S TIME WE STARTED TREATING BOSTON CITY HALL WITH PRIDE

Boston City Hall is in the news.

David Scondras, one of the few city councillors you might expect better from, suggested to the New York Times that City Hall ought to be sold because it's overcrowded and ugly. Instead, suggested Scondras, the city should build an office tower for itself.

An office tower might be a fitting home for a civic bureaucracy. A city hall is something different. It's supposed to be a landmark that symbolizes the city.

In thinking about City Hall and the current reaction to it, I remembered an article in the Globe a couple of weeks ago that noted a mind-boggling fact. A third of today's Bostonians have lived here no more than five years.
