How do we like "The Murder of Mary Phagan"? Let us count the Emmy
nominations:
Best miniseries -- The five-hour historical drama (8:30-11
tomorrow night and 9-11:30 Tuesday on Channel 4) about the trial of
Leo Frank, a Northern Jew who manages a pencil factory and is
charged with the slaying of one of his workers, a 13-year-old girl
in 1913 Atlanta, is far and away the best TV-movie of the 1987-'88
season. It is riveting television fueled by details of time, place
and character that are exceptional in any medium. Producer George
Stevens Jr. has assembled a first-rate team that has made a film
