Article: RED CROSS CELEBRATES 125 YEARS OF SERVICE

GENEVA - A plaque was hung yesterday at the place where five villagers met 125 years ago to pledge aid to wounded soldiers, giving birth to the International Red Cross.

On Feb. 9, 1863, five men from Geneva formed the International Committee for Relief to the Wounded, the forerunner of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The unveiling of the plaque was one of several events scheduled through August to mark the founding of the group.
