Whoopee! The back-room boys - they're always boys -- are already
sending boxes of their $2 cigars to Atlanta in eager anticipation
of the first brokered convention since 1952.
Gary Hart told the audience at the Democratic debate on
Saturday in Atlanta that the convention to be held in July, only a
few blocks away, is more likely to be brokered than in any recent
campaign, and he may stay in the race in order to have a voice on
the convention floor. Paul Simon has said something similar.
Other analysts agree. Several have given Iowa and New
Hampshire failing marks for poor performances as winnowers, leaving
the campaigns overpopulated and confused. Time magazine suggested
