Jesse Jackson's mention this week of Mayor Flynn as a choice for running mate was treated more as a flattering fantasy by most voters than as a political possibility.

After all, for Flynn to be on the Democratic ticket, Jackson would have to win the nomination. The chance of that occurring, given the conventional wisdom that a black candidate cannot be elected president in 1988, is very slim.
