Gov. Dukakis' win in Connecticut gives him a little more oxygen
for the marathon to Atlanta, but it neither slows Jesse Jackson's
momentum nor sidetracks a vital test for the Democratic leadership.
Dukakis, as expected, has won all six New England states, but
the fact is that he has yet to win a major industrial state, losing
Illinois to Paul Simon and Michigan to Jackson. It's still a close
two-man race, despite Sen. Albert Gore's presence, with no sure
front-runner.
The big tests for both Jackson and Dukakis are coming up: the
April 12 Wisconsin primary and the April 19 New York primary. How
each fares in those two contests will directly influence a key
group of Democrats who ...
