Two motorcyclists were killed, one of them during a police
chase, while a man drowned and a motorist was killed in separate
accidents during the weekend, authorities said.
In one motorcycle accident, 21-year-old Horace Thanis of
Alleghany Street, Roxbury, died Saturday night in Westwood during a
police chase that reached speeds of 95 to 100 m.p.h., said State
Police Sgt. Richard Hepworth of the Norwell barracks.
Thanis had been riding at those speeds with six to eight other
motorcyclists when troopers began to pursue them on Route 24 in
Randolph. The chase eventually led onto University Avenue in
Westwood, where Thanis hit a set of railroad tracks, struck a curb
