THE TALLIS SCHOLARS -- Peter Phillips, director, at the
Church of the Advent last night.
The Tallis Scholars have built a large and loyal following
through their recordings. From the first notes of John Taverner's
"Dum transisset sabbatum" in their Boston debut concert last night
it was obvious that the Tallis Scholars are every bit as good as
their recordings suggest. The 10 members of the ensemble are all
first-class musicians and virtuoso choral singers. The sound of the
group is absolutely astonishing in its purity and its blend; the
intonation is piercingly accurate, and that creates tremendous
drama in music that depends on the delayed resolution of clashes of
harmony for ...
