Article: THE REMAKE IN COPLEY SQUARE

Tomorrow is Marathon Day. And that means tens of thousands of people will be wandering around Copley Square, wondering what's the deal with the wire fences.

The deal, of course, is the $6 million overhaul of the square's open space. Built in the '60s, demolished last fall to considerable applause, the old square is being replaced by a 2 1/ 2-acre park that will include a food pavilion, lawns, a granite fountain, 53 trees and 88 cast iron benches.

In short, a complete overhaul. And while the project won't be finished until next spring -- that's when the benches go in and the flowers will be planted -- members of the Copley Square Centennial Committee say ...
