Where's New England?
Is it the six states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont,
Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut?
Or is it something more? Or less?
Advertising and marketing experts must grapple with this issue
when they try to put a regional spin on the sales messages they
push out by the hundreds to sell products in New England.
Often they turn to photos of church spires or lobster traps,
actors who mimic Yankee twangs, or just an outline map of the
region -- which someone suggested looks like the front end of a
clipped poodle -- to produce generic imagery usable from New York
City's posh Connecticut suburbs to the wilds of northern Maine.
