Let's face it. Heating used to be elegant. Not very
efficient, but fireplaces, stoves and other heating devices were
quite attractive.
There were also cast iron and brass grilles to cover hot-air
duct openings in the floor.
Then came modern heating, and with it came efficient but
pretty nondescript accessories. In fact, they were pretty ugly.
The brass and cast iron grilles and vent covers gradually
disappeared. You were lucky to find them in antiques stores and
flea markets -- at a hefty premium.
Enter Mike Reggio of Ayer. Some 10 years ago, he uncovered a
discarded cast iron heating register. Impressed by its good looks,
