It wasn't much of a week for George Bush, what with Ronald Reagan
pronouncing his name to rhyme with thrush, gush, hush and mush
rather than tush and push.
But it wasn't all that much better for Mike Dukakis, as his
"Massachusetts miracle" lost some of its magic, with budgetary
problems acknowledged, more industrial jobs lost and pesky local
Republicans complaining of his absenteeism.
Nevertheless, the governor of Massachusetts, less than six
months ago a near-nonentity among national figures, is even with or
ahead of the vice president, a man whose resume and recognition
factors should have him running far ahead of the recently obscure
governor.
