BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The setting could hardly have been more dramatic: an American flag flapping in a crisp desert breeze, gray-red mountains shimmering on the horizon, Air Force jets soaring overhead, and hundreds of war veterans proudly saluting as a state cemetery for their dead was dedicated.

It was one of those rare occasions when diverse groups and even political adversaries could jointly celebrate a long-sought achievement. Heck, even Gov. Richard Bryan and Sen. Chic Hecht were nice to each other.
