Charles Pyle explained recently why he chose to become a part of
the fabric of the United States Golf Association, the game's
governing body in this country. "I think we all have to be a little
nuts to do it," he said, "but I think you enjoy doing it. There is
a degree of satisfaction.
"You meet some wonderful people. It gets pretty exciting
walking down the fairway with 5,000 people beside you and Jack
Nicklaus and Tom Watson walking next to you. We like to think of
ourselves as the arbiters of golf. We're obviously having a problem
with the equipment, and I think the next big thing is the ball.
