The city of Lowell is celebrating one of its most famous sons this week -- Jack Kerouac, the chronicler of the Beat Generation in 20 books of narrative prose, poems and essays, who was born in a Lowell double-decker in 1922 and buried in his hometown's Edson Cemetery in 1969.

Tomorrow through Sunday, the Lowell Historic Preservation Commission is sponsoring a weeklong series of events to mark the dedication of a major work of public art, the Jack Kerouac Commemorative.
