TORONTO - After introducing himself at the economic summit
as "Ron," President Reagan yesterday said the $200 billion in
annual farm subsidies paid by the seven participating countries is
"an immense problem" that needs to be resolved.
Speaking at the first formal session with world leaders at the
seven-nation summit, which began here yesterday, Reagan steered
clear of thorny topics such as interest rates, budget deficits and
world trade, according to presidential spokesman Marlin Fitzwater.
Instead, the president concentrated on issues about which the
seven countries have already voiced general support.
