Jon Miller, who established himself as one of baseball's best
and most revered announcers during his 14-year tenure as the radio
voice of the Baltimore Orioles, said yesterday that he is leaving
the team. Miller and his representative said Orioles executives did
not express a desire to keep him.
Baltimore-based agent Ron Shapiro said Miller's decision to
leave the Orioles was made last week after a breakdown in the recent
discussions with the club that, according to Shapiro, never reached
the stage of formal negotiations. Miller intends to sign a contract
with another major league team, probably the San Francisco Giants.
That could happen by Monday.
