"16 Days of Glory," a six-part documentary of the XXIII Olympiad
held in Los Angeles in the summer of 1984, will be shown on
Channels 2, 11 and 36 starting Wednesday at 8 p.m.
Filmed by Olympic archivist Bud Greenspan, the six-hour
documentary recorded the drama in Carl Lewis' pursuit of Jesse
Owens' four gold medals in track. He also was on the spot when Mary
Lou Retton's (on the cover) quest for gold came down to one final
vault.
And when Rowdy Gaines, who at 25 thought he was too old for
swimming, won the 100-meter freestyle. And Greg Louganis, with the
gold already wrapped up, performed his final platform dive, a
dangerous maneuver that had killed a Soviet diver one year before.
