WASHINGTON - The majority of Americans can't find Great Britain, France, Japan or the Persian Gulf on the map and have no idea of what the US population is, according to surveys conducted by the Gallup Organization and the National Geographic Society.

Moreover, Americans in the 18-24 age group ranked last when their survey results were compared to similar tests conducted in eight other nations, said the society, which sponsored the international testing. Americans of all age group scored sixth.
