Gov. Michael S. Dukakis has received the blessings of Rev. Jesse Jackson, but that has not spared the Democratic presidential nominee the occasional surprise from Jackson.

The two left the national convention in Atlanta embracing party unity, but since then, Jackson's actions have revived questions about whether he will help or hinder the Democratic ticket.
