Gov. Michael S. Dukakis has received the blessings of Rev. Jesse
Jackson, but that has not spared the Democratic presidential
nominee the occasional surprise from Jackson.
The two left the national convention in Atlanta embracing
party unity, but since then, Jackson's actions have revived
questions about whether he will help or hinder the Democratic
ticket.
On Wednesday, he questioned the ticket's commitment to his
supporters in remarks published by The Washington Post the next
day. The same day, The New York Times reported that he indicated
that he wanted to meet with the Iranian foreign minister to help
