Hail The Ruckus, considered the weaker half of an entry,
assumed the lead shortly after the start from the inside and simply
drew away from Banker's Jet and Fire Plug to win the $130,300
Suffolk Downs Sprint Handicap yesterday.
Hail The Ruckus was so much the best he couldn't even stop
himself. He hit his head on the doors coming out of the gate and
came back from his easy 5-length victory with a bloody 2 1/2-inch
gash over his left eye.
The winner set fast fractions of :21 4/5, :44 3/5, and :56 4/
5, under Kentucky-based rider Charles Woods, on the way to a swift
final clocking of 1:09 1/5 over a track that was not really
conducive to speed.
