LENOX - Hans Werner Henze, the eminent German composer, is in
residence this summer at Tanglewood. Performances of his music
will be an important feature of the annual Festival of Contemporary
Music there Thursday through Aug. 10. On Saturday, Seiji Ozawa will
conduct the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Henze's Seventh Symphony.
On Sunday, Aug. 7, students of the Tanglewood Music Center will
perform Henze's opera "Elegy for Young Lovers," which, like
Stravinsky's "The Rake's Progress," boasts a libretto by W. H.
Auden and Chester Kallman. Then on Wednesday, Aug. 10, Henze
himself will conduct the American premiere of his new cello
concerto, "Sieben Liebeslieder," with Yo-Yo Ma as soloist.
