As Americans become increasingly aware of the pollution of
land, air and water, a special Learning Section explores
the growth of environmental education.
To preserve rain forests and educate the public about their
importance, environmental groups hope to make an example and a
classroom out of 152,000 acres in the tiny Latin American country
of Belize.
An international coalition led by the Massachusetts Audubon
Society formed the Programme for Belize earlier this year to create
the Rio Bravo Conservation Area in the northwest corner of Belize,
nestled between the Mexican and Guatemalan borders. The area is
