Joshua Bell, 21, makes his local debut at Great Woods tonight;
London Records clearly believes in his future, for they have
introduced him to a world public with the simultaneous release of
two recordings and the promise of more. Bell comes from
Bloomington, Indiana where he studied with Josef Gingold, from whom
he obviously absorbed a lot; unlike some of his contemporaries who
are also being heavily promoted, Bell seems to have set his sights
on musical goals and to have kept his bearings. The appeal of his
playing comes in his warm and attractive tone -- he never goes into
ugly overdrive -- a natural, instinctive and cultivated
