Yesterday the Rockies crumbled, Gibraltar tumbled. That's about
how impossible it is to grasp that Wayne Gretzky no longer is an
Edmonton Oiler. He was an Oiler forever, wasn't he?
Sure . . . until yesterday became forever and he went from the
Gateway to the North, as Edmonton has called itself, to Tinseltown,
as everybody calls Los Angeles. The intersection of Jasper and
101st, where four Stanley Cup championship celebrations peaked,
will be draped in black.
Never say never.
Wayne Gretzky is now a King, and picturing him in a Los
Angeles uniform is almost as sacrilegious a thought as seeing an
Indian head on the front of Bobby Orr's game sweater instead of the
Bruins logo. Or, could ...
