Article: Lawyer Carolyn Agger Dies; Widow of Justice Abe Fortas

Carolyn Eugenia Agger, 87, a noted tax lawyer who retired two years ago as a senior partner in the law firm of Arnold & Porter, died of pneumonia Nov. 7 at her home in Washington. She was the widow of former Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas.

Ms. Agger headed the tax practice group at Arnold & Porter, one of Washington's most prestigious law firms, for about 20 years. She was a tiny dynamo of a woman who smoked cigars, championed rights for women and worked long hours well into her 70s. Her clients included the Blaustein family, which has oil and other business interests, and the Maidenform women's garments company.
