ABOARD KOREAN AIR FLIGHT 26 - "I don't care. It's not the only
thing in life to win a gold medal."
With those words to the Globe, Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson
reacted to the tumult of the Olympic scandal in which he was
engulfed.
"I still have my parents," added Johnson, who was stripped of
his 100-meter gold medal for allegedly having taken a banned
anabolic steroid. "My family still loves me."
On Friday, the fastest human ever breezed through the
100-meter final in a world-record 9.79 seconds, leaving Carl Lewis
in his gold dust.
On Monday, Johnson's somber entourage settled almost unnoticed
into seats aboard KE026 for a flight to New York, where he would
