"Last time I passed through Boston I was in 'Tricks of the
Trade' with my wife," George C. Scott said. "We made it to New York
and ran one night. When was that -- 1980? '81? This time I'm doing
an eight-week tour of 'Clarence Darrow.' We started last week in
Dallas. If New York happens it may be next year, Los Angeles then
New York. We'll just see how it goes."
Based on Irving Stone's "Clarence Darrow for the Defense,"
David Rintels one-man show presumably is a safer bet than "Tricks
of the Trade." But the piece has had some problems. Henry Fonda
originated the role and played Darrow on Broadway in 1974. Under
the direction of John Houseman, Fonda earned acclaim for his
performance ...
