In a move signaling wide discontent among New England
Teamsters, a group of United Parcel Service drivers is attempting
to split thousands of UPS workers from the powerful union's
pension fund.
More than 100 UPS Teamster drivers rallied outside US District
Court yesterday as leaders of the drive pressed for summary
judgment in a federal lawsuit to pull nearly 12,000 UPS workers out
of the New England Teamsters and Trucking Industry Pension Fund.
The UPS workers make up more than a quarter of New England's
44,000 Teamsters.
James Grady, chief attorney for the International Brotherhood
of Teamsters, opposed the move in court. He claimed the union's New
