Article: GROGAN HAS SELF-DOUBTS QB'S CONFIDENCE TAKES A JOLT

FOXBOROUGH - He has played 14 years with the same attitude. No one was tougher than Steve Grogan. No one had more confidence in his own ability. No one transmitted that confidence to his teammates better.

But now that confidence has been diminished. The Patriots are 2-4, reeling from a 45-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers last week. Ahead lie the 6-0 Cincinnati Bengals.

Like everyone else, Grogan has wondered what went wrong. He has looked at himself, looked at the 12 interceptions he has thrown and shaken his head in dismay.

"I'm embarrassed the way I'm playing," said Grogan yesterday. "I have to find a way to work my way out of it."
