GAMES AND OTHER PLEASURES -- A concert by the New England
Conservatory Contemporary Ensemble in Jordan Hall Monday
night.
The conductor wore a T-shirt and mismatched shoes. One flutist
sported green polka-dot trousers, and the clarinetist wore no
trousers at all, although from the waist up he was in impeccable
black-tie concert gear.
"Cobra" by the New York avant-garde composer John Zorn was the
Halloween climax to the terrific new-music concert Stephen Drury
assembled at the New England Conservatory Monday night. The
musicians in "Cobra" are apparently playing some kind of game; one
participant compared it to "Dungeons and Dragons." The conductor,
