Article: HURST FILES FOR FREE AGENCY

Red Sox ace lefty Bruce Hurst yesterday filed for free agency and is now eligible to negotiate with any of the 26 major league teams.

The Red Sox and Hurst's agent, Nick Lampros, have been conducting negotiations for the last two weeks, but have not come to an agreement on a new pact. Now the Red Sox have lost their exclusivity with Hurst.

Under the regulations of the basic agreement, Hurst had until today to opt for free agency and yesterday he alerted the Players Association that he would like to test the waters.
