Article: MAINE BOARD TO DECIDE PURCHASE OF PUBLIC LANDS BY YEAR'S END

AUGUSTA, Maine - A state board charged with deciding how to spend $35 million earmarked for the acquisition of public lands is expected to decide by the end of the year which of 51 parcels should be purchased initially.

The parcels, ranging from a 4.5-acre lighthouse lot to more than 10,000 acres of mountain property, were recommended in the first round of proposals solicited by the Land for Maine's Future Board.

Officials say the combined price tags would total more than three times the $15 million available for the initial purchases.
