Article: NEW HAMPSHIRE KAPLAN LAWYER URGES SENTENCE BE REDUCED ATTORNEY STRESSES HELP FOR ABUSED WOMEN

NEWPORT, N.H. - A defense lawyer for Kathleen Kaplan urged a Superior Court judge yesterday to reduce Kaplan's prison term, saying the court could send a message that domestic violence "is a problem that is epidemic in New Hampshire and across the country and has to stop before people get killed."

Kaplan, 31, was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison after she admitted she hired a man to kill her husband, who she said abused her and threatened their child. The attorney general's office and Kaplan's lawyers want Judge Joseph A.
