Last in a series
The dry rustle of dying plants, the patches of lumpy soil and
the occasional chirping of a solitary bird made up the scene at
Newark Street Community Gardens this month. Gardeners headed out to
their plots once again, this time to turn over soil and uproot
plants that had been so fruitful in months past. The garden had met
the season's end.
The public garden, across from the McLean Gardens condominiums
in Northwest Washington, is a place to cultivate flowers and
vegetables, with more than 200 plots. It also is a haven for
nurturing relationships with neighbors and family members.
