It's only fitting that on the Big East's 10th anniversary, the
1988-89 season promises to be a perfect "10."
In the decade since commissioner Dave Gavitt founded an
Eastern basketball alliance, the Big East has experienced a
meteoric ascent as one of the nation's most prominent conferences
-- and certainly one of the most visible. CBS will broadcast 11 Big
East games plus the conference semifinals and championship from
Madison Square Garden, and ESPN will carry 22 Big East matchups.
Step aside, ACC and Big Ten.
Since its inception, the Big East has claimed: seven
appearances in the NCAA Final Four; NCAA championships in 1984 and
'85 (Georgetown and Villanova); three NCAA runners-up, ...
