The opening statement the George Washington men's basketball
team made last night about its season of high hopes stressed all the
traditional values: defense, inside dominance and heavy reliance on
a point guard and center.
The 24th-ranked Colonials doubled the score against Holy Cross
six minutes into their opening game and coasted to an 86-56 victory
in the first round of the Red Auerbach Colonial Classic before 4,132
at Smith Center.
GW meets Boston University for the championship at 8 tonight.
BU showed quickness and defensive intensity, too, in an 85-54 rout
of Florida A&M in the first game last night.
