Hanover athletic director Harry Gerrish was considering
retirement this past fall, but he took one look at George Bush and
figured if someone in his 60s can be President of the United
States, he could stay on in his job.
"I love what I'm doing," said Gerrish, 62. "If I left, I'd
really miss it."
The fall was difficult for Gerrish. "We had a two-week
teacher's strike, and it hurt because all my friends were our there
on the picket line. The atmosphere was ripe for my retirement."
Gerrish submitted his resignation to Superintendent Robert
Fox, who refused to accept it.
"I'm going to file this," Fox told Gerrish.
