Dr. Pier Franco Paci, a pathologist at Brigham and Women's
Hospital and instructor at Harvard Medical School, died of
pancreatic cancer Wednesday in his home in Brookline. He was 58.
Dr. Paci's accuracy in diagnosing tumors and the gusto, warmth
and wit with which he shared his knowledge made him a teacher with
few peers.
The hospital's 40 staff pathologists and its 23 residents and
fellows in pathology independently established teaching awards
earlier this month to honor his legacy.
When three of his senior colleagues went to his home two weeks
ago to inform him of one of the awards, the visitors seemed sad and
