SAN YSIDRO, Calif - Tonight's main event, ladies and
gentlemen: the international 100-yard dash.
The course is called "La Tierra de Nadie" (No Man's Land).
The skies are clear, and the track is fast.
It's a huge field tonight, with contestants from all around
the world gathered in a concrete valley rising up from the Tijuana
River. The winners will elude US Border Patrol units and be
smuggled north to big cities like Los Angeles. The losers will
spend the night in bunk-style prisons.
