PONTE VEDRA, Fla. - The comparisons were endless. Tom Kite
was always that other guy who came out of the University of Texas,
enveloped in the considerable shadows of college teammate Ben
Crenshaw.
"I've been very lucky since I got away from the comparison,"
Kite said Saturday. "How can you win? You can't, because Ben is
everybody's favorite. After I got away from the fact we were
constantly being compared, I feel very comfortable."
The truth is that Kite has won more money on the PGA Tour than
anybody except players named Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, but he
has been remembered too often as a bridesmaid. He won more money
last year than anyone who didn't win a tournament, but he ...
