SEATTLE - Concerned by the alarming rate of turnover in
their ranks this season, the National Association of Basketball
Coaches announced yesterday the establishment of a fund to assist
recently fired college coaches with career rehabilitation and
counseling.
"We hope that this will voice our concern over the trend of
firings of established coaches in our profession," said Michigan
State's Jud Heathcote, outgoing president of the NABC. "We
recognize as coaches that hirings and firings are universal, and it
can happen to any one of us. But when you have good honest coaches
such as Dayton's Don Donoher, or Illinois State's Bob Donewald and
Tennessee's Don DeVoe losing their jobs . . . ...
