THE TALLIS SCHOLARS -- In a concert presented by Charles
River Concerts and WGBH in the Church of the Advent last
night.
The Tallis Scholars are one of the great unexpected musical
success stories of our times. The big international recording
conglomerate that produced their first couple of records didn't
care about their work because it didn't know what it was dealing
with. So director Peter Phillips created his own label, which has
by now produced nearly two dozen CDs that have won the group a lot
of prizes and a large, loyal international audience -- both of its
concerts this weekend were sold out.
